About this stretch

By the time the river reaches Gruene, spring inflow between the dam and town lifts the flow above the bare dam release, so this gage usually reads higher than the River Road release.

Gruene is the postcard stretch, historic dance hall, lots of outfitters. It's the bottom of the long 1st Crossing → Gruene run, the first section outfitters shut down when the dam release drops below ~200 cfs.

Critical safety note: at high water the Gruene low-water bridge is extremely dangerous for floaters. The standard recommendation is to exit the river directly above Gruene Rapid and not approach the bridge.
